How Does the Mystery Bounty Work?

15 October 2026 · 3 min read

The value of each elimination is a mystery until you bust someone: every all-in could be the jackpot.

Mystery Bounty tournaments are among the most exciting formats in modern poker. In a regular bounty every player has a fixed price on their head; in a Mystery Bounty, the value of each elimination is a mystery until you knock someone out.

Phase one: regular play

At the start the tournament plays like any other: everybody fights to survive and build a stack, and there are no bounties yet. The goal is to reach the moment the mystery envelopes are unlocked, usually at the money or at a set percentage of the field.

Phase two: the mystery begins

When the tournament reaches that phase, usually the money, every elimination comes with a bounty. The key is that its value is random: when you knock someone out you do not know if you will get the minimum bounty or the big prize hidden among the envelopes.

Why players love it

The Mystery Bounty combines the skill of tournament poker with the thrill of a lottery. Every all-in can be worth a fortune, and some players win huge prizes without reaching the final table, just by opening the right envelope. Every elimination is a shot of adrenaline, and the whole room celebrates when a big prize comes out.
